2014 Mar 19

Alina Cioletti of Strongsville, OH attended the 2014 Habitat for Humanity trip to Wake Forest, North Carolina. Cioletti is majoring in exercise science. She is the daughter of Anthony and Inga Cioletti of Strongsville. Cioletti is a 2010 graduate of Strongsville High School.

Habitat for Humanity's main slogan is "Giving people a hand up not a hand out." Habitat is about providing adequate housing for everyone while also holding people accountable. They help people by only having the home owners pay for the materials to build the house not the labor which greatly reduces the cost. Homeowners have to go through a rigorous application program to even be considered to get a house.

Normally, when the Ashland University's Habitat group goes down to a location they build the house from the ground up. This year, however, because of their extreme weather conditions the group did an array of tasks. According to the habitat president, Emily Rosepal, this year's trip was really unlike any trip they had been on before due to the many weather issues. The first day they helped with deconstructing a house which Habitat salvages parts of it instead of sending it to the dump. The second day they went to help finish up houses that were being dedicated. Some of the tasks this day included: caulking up holes, cleaning paint off the floors, painting touch ups, cleaning up the yards, and bundling up unused supplies. On the third day they went to a house that needed a floor base put in the foundation. On the last day the group found out that they had to leave early because of a storm. Members of the group explained that even through unusual circumstances the group stayed positive throughout the whole trip, and had a lot of fun helping others.
