Phi Alpha Theta is a national history honor society with over 820 chapters and 275,000 members. It is a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It also seeks to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges to promote and assist historical research. Phi Alpha Theta elects students based upon their merit in history. Members must have a minimum GPA of 3.1 and 12 credit hours completed in history but they do not have to major in history.
