Ashland University Student and Youngstown Resident Receives Award at Conference

Ashland University psychology students Emily Wirtz and Danielle Bruno received a regional research award from the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association in Chicago on April 20.

Their research project, titled The Effects of Aggression on Ability, was one of 20 award winners out of the 600 research abstracts that were submitted to the MPA conference. In addition to being recognized at a banquet in Chicago, they were awarded a certificate and $400.

Wirtz, a senior who will graduate in December, is from Youngstown, Ohio. She is a 2013 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and the daughter of Robert and Patricia Wirtz.

Bruno is a senior and will graduate during AU's spring commencement on May 6. She is from Medina, Ohio, and is a 2013 graduate of Brunswick High School. She is the daughter of James Bruno and Mary Beth Braun-Jenkins.

The MPA is a regional division of the American Psychological Association (APA), and the annual meeting is held in Chicago each spring. Faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students from across the Midwest (and beyond) gather in Chicago to present the latest research in the field of psychological science. The 1,500-plus members of MPA make it one of the largest psychological associations in the world. Members hold positions in universities, colleges, hospitals, clinics, school systems, business and industry, government and private practice.
