Ashleigh Persinger Awarded Chapter Grant for Ashland University's Chapter of the Collegiate Middle Level Association

2015 Sep 3

Ashleigh Persinger of Marion, OH was one of the three AU students who received the Collegiate Middle Level Association Chapter Grant. This means AU students will have the opportunity to present at the Association of Middle Level Educators (AMLE) National Conference in October.

Persinger is majoring in middle grades education. She is the daughter of Terry and Tina Persinger of Marion. Persinger is a 2013 graduate of River Valley High School.

The grant is awarded to a CMLA chapter that has demonstrated commitment to the preparation of future middle grades teachers.

The grant proposal was based on Ashland University CMLA's partnership with the Ashland County Juvenile Detention Center to help students who are academically at risk. This AU student organization has partnered with the Ashland County Juvenile Court Community Service and Probation Department since 2013 to provide a structured tutoring program.

The college chapter that is awarded the grant is given the opportunity to make a presentation on the chapter's program at the AMLE national conference. Ashland University's CMLA is using the $2,000 Chapter Grant to offset the costs for Ashland University CMLA members attending the 2015 AMLE National Conference on Oct. 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
