Cleveland Resident Takes First in Mr. University Pageant Show at Ashland University

2016 Mar 29

William "Josh" Robinson, a resident of Cleveland, Ohio, and a junior at Ashland University, was recently crowned Mr. University at the annual Mr. University event sponsored by the Alpha Phi sorority on campus.

After Robinson, who competed as Mr. AU G.I.V.S., was crowned Mr. University, he said, "I actually could not believe that I was being crowned Mr. U. There were so many other great performances that I just felt honored being a part of the event. So, it really came as a humbling surprise to me that I would be crowned Mr. U."

Robinson's talent act that helped him advance to the final round of the show was him beat-boxing with a harmonica.

The most memorable part of Mr. University for Robinson was the reaction that he got from the crowd. He said, "I really felt the energy during my performance especially during my beat-boxing. It was amazing having that interaction with the crowd and I will always remember that feeling!"

To describe the efforts done by the sisters of Alpha Phi, Robinson said, "Good better best, never let it rest, until your good is better and your better is best. Alpha Phi worked extremely hard on this event. There was so much effort put into Mr. U by Alpha Phi and the contestants, which is why that quote is very fitting."

Robinson serves as the President of the AU G.I.V.S. (Ashland University Gets Involved with Volunteer Service) organization and as a resident assistant on campus.

Robinson is majoring in social work. He is the son of Mary Dunn of Cleveland and is a 2013 graduate of Glenville High School.

The annual Mr. University event sponsored by the Alpha Phi sorority took place on Tuesday, March 22, in Myers Convocation Center. Fourteen men representing different organizations on campus competed in the event. Alpha Phi raised more than $3,000 for the Alpha Phi Foundation and cardiac care awareness.

The Epsilon Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Phi sorority is dedicated to improving and embodying their six core values: character development, scholarship, service, loyalty, leadership, and sisterhood. Alpha Phi prides itself in fundraising for the Alpha Phi Foundation and raising awareness for cardiac care. Their philanthropy programs and events include the Pre Red Dress Social, The Annual Red Dress Gala, Cardiac Care Week, Hoops for Heart, and Mr. University.
