Etna Resident Named Ashland University Intern of the Month

2017 Apr 3

Austin Williams, an Etna (43062) resident, is the AU Career Services March Intern of the Month for Ashland University. The senior finance and international business major will be graduating this semester. During the summer of 2016, he interned with Morgan Stanley as an Institutional Wealth Management Intern.

Williams, a 2013 graduate of Watkins Memorial High School, is the son of Yvonne and Robert Williams of Etna.

Williams reports learning a great deal about the world of business this summer. During his internship with Morgan Stanley, Williams worked with a team of investment consultants. Working with the team allowed him to get hands-on experience in the office. Williams contributed to a variety of projects on Microsoft Excel, a widely used program by businesses across the world. He also performed research for business prospects while doing general administrative and office tasks.

This experience gave Williams the opportunity to understand how a wealth management office runs. He gained hands-on experience in developing and implementing allocation strategies. Williams developed many skills and knowledge, but most importantly he developed as a business man.

William encourages other students to get ahead early on in their college career through internships.

"Internships are the most important thing to a student's college career. They give you the opportunity to learn from professionals in the field and exposure to what the business world is actually like," said Williams. "My opportunity at Morgan Stanley was a fantastic learning experience and confirmed my choice of major and career path."

Williams noted that internships give students experience and knowledge that textbooks just cannot do. "Getting immersed into the business and understanding how a business operates is the best way to get prepared for the real world," he added.
