Huron Resident Named Intern of the Month at Ashland University

2016 Mar 21

Huron resident Becca Humphreys, a senior at Ashland University majoring in Information Systems and minoring in Accounting and Supply Chain Management, was named Ashland University's February Intern of the Month after accepting an internship as an expeditor for American Augers that began in September 2015.

Humphreys won the February Intern of the Month because of her success, dedication and overall performance as an intern. Since the start of her internship, Humphreys has accomplished huge tasks for the organization, proving to be an added value to American Augers.

Throughout the past six months, Humphreys has been responsible for updating shortage reports, running weekly reports of materials needed, verifying inventory, and contacting suppliers to keep them accountable and on time. She also writes reports for purchase orders and sale orders, ensures that machines are being built, and orders are fulfilled in a timely manner.

Other responsibilities include updating the supplier evaluation reports and the enterprise resource planning system on a monthly basis. This allows buyers to be able to see and report to their suppliers how well their performance was in the previous month.

Humphreys' current project has been a vendor file clean up. This project included sifting through more than 200 vendor files, sorting information based on most current activity, and creating and introducing a new organization system to keep their files manageable.

As an expeditor for American Augers, Humphreys says that she has grown more than she could have expected. She has become more comfortable in her role and has learned how her position fits into the entire supply chain process. Excitingly, Humphreys has been offered a full-time position after her graduation in May.

"I believe it is important for students to always apply for a position even if they feel that they are not 100 percent qualified because most tasks will be taught in training and pushing for something new and difficult will allow you to grow into a better person in your chosen field. If you do not apply for the position you will never get that chance to learn from it," she said.

Humphreys is the daughter of Marlene Humphreys of Huron and is a 2012 graduate of Huron High School.
