Jamie Waltz Completes Summer Internship with the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce

2015 Sep 14

Navarre resident Jamie Waltz, who is a senior marketing major at Ashland University, interned at the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce in Wooster, Ohio, this past summer.

Waltz is the daughter of Timothy and Candice Waltz of Navarre, and she is a 2013 graduate of Fairless High School.

The Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce has the mission to improve community development, legislative advocacy, workforce preparedness and education.

Throughout Waltz's internship, she worked closely and completed multiple projects for the Event & Program Administrator Samira Zimmerly. Waltz's responsibilities included planning, marketing and attending Chamber events, such as Business after Hours, Field of Dreams and the Home and Garden Show. Waltz designed programs, award certificates, Facebook posts, as well as created Eventbrite pages.

One major project Waltz completed was the creation of the tentative schedule and baseline logistics for Manufacturing Day, which incorporates local businesses and several school districts. Waltz corresponded with local business professionals who were involved in Chamber events.

"I learned a lot about all of the responsibilities in event planning. I learned how to use different programs and websites," Waltz explained. "I became more comfortable communicating and networking in the business environment."

Waltz said her classes at Ashland University were helpful in the internship experience as she was able to "relate to some scenarios and better understand certain concepts since I had gained a little insight to the business field at AU.

Waltz has not determined the career path she will take after graduating. She is currently looking into opportunities relating to marketing agencies, consumer behavior, and marketing research.
