Lindsay Huff Completed Business Internship at Ashland University

2011 Sep 27

Lindsay Huff of Franklin, PA, completed an internship through the Dauch College of Business and Economics at Ashland University.

According to Dr. Khushwant Pittenger, business professor and internship coordinator at Ashland, these required business internships are a good way for students to explore their career choices, network with professionals, build their resumes and develop applicable skills.

Huff interned with The Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA, under the supervision of Banquet Manager Joe Conver.

Huff's duties included meeting with clients, shadowing catering planners, managing events, doing paper work dealing with employees, and running the room service, restaurant, and deli services.

Her major projects included changing the menu options for the deli and researching new ideas, organizing paperwork, working on better storage systems for wines and working with budgets to save costs.

Huff said she learned many ways of dealing with people in the hospitality industry, most of all building on experiences and networking with great co-workers.

"[My internship] gives me knowledge to share what I have learned and allows me to think outside the box with ideas for class," said Huff.

Huff is majoring in hospitality management with a marketing minor.

Huff is the daughter of Dale and Jennifer Huff.

Huff is a 2008 graduate of Venango Catholic High School.
