Medina Resident Completes Summer Internship

2016 Sep 15

Medina resident Alyssa Bayne, who is a senior marketing major at Ashland University, completed a summer internship with the Wadsworth Area Chamber of Commerce in Wadsworth, Ohio. The internship was under supervision of the chamber's executive director, Janie Parish.

Bayne, who is the daughter of Ronald and Susan Bayne of Medina, is a 2013 graduate of Brunswick High School.

"The Chamber is a non-profit organization that is devoted to keeping a vibrant business community through membership. They work to provide benefits to its members such as marketing and promotional opportunities," Bayne said.

Bayne's duties included coordinating, maintaining and hosting a "Business Spotlight" Radio show for chamber members to promote their businesses, attend meetings for various organizations involving downtown Wadsworth revitalization efforts, and writing press releases to local newspapers about various chamber events.

"Throughout this experience I have learned so much about marketing, as well as how to be a better business professional. I learned how to create and maintain good will as well as demonstrate professionalism in everything I do," Bayne said.

Bayne believes that her classes at Ashland University gave her a basis on which to build her foundation and the necessary tools to be able to grow her skills. Bayne said she will be able to look at the information in her future classes from a real-world perspective and apply the knowledge she has. She said her internship has given her a clearer vision on what kind of career she would like to have after graduation.

"I would really like to work in a marketing department for a company in a big city somewhere. I would love to be able to work one-on-one with people," Bayne said.
