Medina Resident Completes Summer Internship

2017 Sep 27

Medina resident Jessica Dutko, a junior business management and marketing major at Ashland University, completed an internship with Overhead Door Corporation in Mt. Hope, Ohio. This internship was under the supervision of the organization's wood supervisor, Teresa Bonifant.

Dutko is the daughter of Joe and Joan Dutko of Medina and is a 2015 graduate of Medina High School.

She explained that Overhead Wood Corporation is primarily a manufacturing facility that makes residential and commercial garage doors. Dutko worked as a Customer Service intern and performed duties like daily reports, locating quotes and sales orders, and assisting in data collection for various projects. Something major that she accomplished was creating the wood department reference sheet, which aided the company in finding any document they might need all in one place.

Dutko said, "From this work experience I learned more about the professional work environment, such as how to effectively communicate and efficiently complete my work. I also had to act timely and hold myself accountable for my job."

Dutko believed that her classes at AU prepared her for this internship through the real world scenarios often used in class. "I was able to apply my Information Systems minor as I navigated through MXP9000, Microsoft Office, and JotForm to create and retrieve data, apply it, and to draw conclusions," Dutko said.
