North Canton Resident Stars In AU Women's Basketball Team Regular Season Championship Game

ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University sophomore forward Julie Worley played an integral role as the No. 6-ranked Ashland University women's basketball team defeated Wayne State, 81-60, at home on Feb. 13 to improve to 24-1 overall and 18-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

That win was the Lady Eagles' 25th consecutive home victory and also meant they clinched the GLIAC regular-season championship and the South Division title. It is AU's third GLIAC regular-season title, all in the last five seasons, and the program's ninth South Division crown.

Worley came into the game and contributed 10 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes. Worley has seen playing time in 23 of the 25 games, averaging 13.8 minutes per game and 8.2 points per game.

Worley, a resident of North Canton, Ohio, is majoring in exercise science. She is the daughter of Erik and Joan Worley of North Canton and is a 2014 graduate of Hoover High School.

Ashland will be the No. 1 seed for the 2016 GLIAC Tournament when it begins on Tuesday, March 1, and will be at home as long as they keep winning in the tournament.

The Ashland University women's basketball team competes in NCAA Division II in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and is led by head coach Robin Fralick. The Eagles finished 22nd in the nation in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II poll for the 2014-15 season, ending with an impressive 25-9 overall record.
