North Olmsted Resident Interns at ShurTech

2016 Sep 19

North Olmsted resident Jeremiah Jansen, who is a senior supply chain management and business management major at Ashland University, completed a summer internship with ShurTech. The internship was completed under materials manager, Pat Speckhart.

Jansen is the son of Larry and Maureen Jansen. He is a 2013 graduate of St. Edward High School.

Some major projects Jansen helped to complete were the Duck Tape Festival, the Real Vote activation marketing event during the RNC, and replacing one of the senior buyers who was away on leave of absence.

"I utilized SAP to effectively schedule for the supply of product to meet expected demand while communicating directly with U.S. and Asian based suppliers to ensure successful product deliveries," said Jansen. "I definitely learned a lot about the many complexities within the supply chain field. It certainly was a great and hands-on real life experience that I'll be able to take to my future career. Learning about SAP and how to communicate effectively with both domestic and international suppliers makes me excited to work in this field following graduation next year."

Jansen reports that the logic and terminology he learned at Ashland University has helped prepare him to "actually dig deeper into what actually happens in the real world. Without that background, I would not have been able to effectively participate in the supply chain department at ShurTech. I am very appreciative of all of my professors at AU for better preparing me to enter into the real world."

"Getting hands-on experience in SAP is certainly a big help in understanding the logic of forecasting and demand planning will help better prepare me for classes at AU. My supervisor and the rest of the materials management team I worked with daily helped grow my confidence in working within this field. I'll be able to take that confidence back to my classes as well."
