Sterling Heights Resident Interns at Frito Lay

2016 Sep 20

Sterling Heights resident Stephanie Magliulo, who is a senior supply chain management major at Ashland University, completed a summer internship with Frito Lay in Wooster, Ohio. The internship was under the supervision of warehouse manager, Amanda Peretti.

Magliulo is the daughter of David and Donna Magliulo of Sterling Heights. She is a 2013 graduate of Stevenson High School.

"My position was the Frito Lay supply chain intern for the Warehouse in Wooster," Magliulo said. "I would work primarily in the office but often found myself interacting with the warehouse team on the floor."

At the beginning of the internship, Magliulo was given projects to work on. On top of working on those projects she also learned the daily activities of a Supply Chain Leader in the warehouse. The activities included: performing interviews, leading pre-shift meets, and using software such as labor management and ICS to track the team on inventory going in and out of the door.

"I had two projects this summer," said Magliulo. "My first project was to research the opportunity cost of leasing trailers instead of renting. I found out that it is more cost effective to lease instead of rent. My second project was updating the Master Sanitation Schedule for the warehouse. I collaborated with other interns to potentially invest in sanitation software that tracks activities through a calendar basis; the software also allows audits, signoff sheets, daily reminders of up-coming projects and a visual representation of what steps must be taken to complete the sanitation project. The software is highly customizable so both warehouse and manufacturing would be able to make edits and changes to fit their sanitizers' needs."

Magliulo believes her supply chain classes at Ashland University really helped her with the overall understanding of supply chain management. Her business communication class has also been extremely beneficial with the business process.

"The internship helped me to better understand the constant relationship between the production and warehouse side of an organization," said Magliulo. "Overall, the internship made me love the company and I would be honored to work for Frito Lay after college."

"My internship gave me a real life perspective on the importance of an effective supply chain," Magliulo stated. "The experience solidified my career path. I truly love what I'm doing at Frito Lay and enjoy working in a supply chain business."
