Sugar Grove Resident Named Alpha Phi Sorority President at Ashland University

2017 Feb 27

The Alpha Phi Epsilon Alpha chapter at Ashland University has elected Marina Schaefer to serve as its next president for the 2017 year. Schaefer, a junior from Sugar Grove, Ill., is majoring in fashion merchandise at Ashland.

Schaefer is the daughter of David Schaefer of Sugar Grove and is a 2014 graduate of Kaneland High School.

When Schaefer was asked about her new position she stated, "I feel like this next year is going to be full of fun but it will also be a great learning opportunity for me. I have learned to live on a day-to-day basis because you never know what the next day will bring. I have also started managing my time better and really delegating tasks that I know someone else can handle."

She said it is a great honor to serve as the president of a Greek organization. "It is not only an honor but a great pleasure to be the one that represents Alpha Phi on Ashland University's campus. Sitting in front of my chapter every Sunday brings me so much joy. I love this chapter and I am so proud of everything that has been accomplished so far," she said.

Being a member of any Greek organization also offers one numerous opportunities to serve in leadership positions and grow as an individual. Commenting on how Greek life has impacted her life, Schaefer said, "I owe a lot to this community and it is where I have met my best friends. I would not want to trade that for the world. I am also way more confident, which has helped me obtain an internship for this upcoming summer."
